Gas Filling Systems: Functions, Classification & Core Equipment

In semiconductors, lithium batteries, and optoelectronic displays, stable specialty gas supply is the foundation of continuous production. The gas filling system — the critical hub between gas source and point of use — directly determines safety, continuity, and purity.

Core Functions

A gas filling system charges industrial gases into cylinders or containers at specified pressure, temperature, and purity. Four requirements drive every design:

Requirement Description
Safety Strict pressure and temperature control; prevent overfill and mis-fill
Purity Assurance Eliminate impurity ingress throughout the entire filling cycle
Precision Metering Accurate fill quantity by weight or volume, per national standards
Continuous Operation High-throughput multi-cylinder batch filling

Gas Classification System

Based on GB16163-1996, industrial gases are classified by physical state and chemical properties.

Bulk Gases — high-volume conventional gases (O₂, N₂, Ar, H₂, CO₂, C₂H₂):

Category Critical Temp State
Permanent Gases < −10°C Gaseous
High-Pressure Liquefied −10°C to 70°C Liquid, evaporates above critical temp
Dissolved Acetylene Dissolved in solvent under pressure

Specialty Gases — high-purity, low-volume gases for electronics and specialty chemicals:

High-pressure liquefied:

  • flammable non-toxic / pyrophoric toxic / thermally unstable

Low-pressure liquefied ( > 70°C):

  • acidic corrosive (halides) / alkaline corrosive (ammonia) / thermally unstable

Six System Modules

# Module Function
1 Gas Source Regulation Intake, pressure adjustment, stabilized output
2 Filling Rack & Manifold Core multi-cylinder parallel filling unit
3 Metering & Control Weight/pressure monitoring, automated valves, safety interlocks
4 Safety Protection Overpressure relief, emergency shutoff, leak detection
5 Purification & Filtration Pre-filling gas purification
6 Tail Gas Treatment Recovery or harmless disposal of residual gas

Core Equipment

Charging Manifold— The central execution unit. EP-grade electropolished stainless steel with branch valves and dedicated connectors enables simultaneous multi-cylinder batch filling. Manifolds are gas-specific: oxygen, hydrogen, argon, and specialty gas variants each use matched materials and seals.

Gas Manifold System — Aggregates multiple cylinder groups with primary/secondary pressure reduction, enabling uninterrupted supply through automated bank switching — essential for continuous bulk gas filling.

Pressure Regulating Valve Group — Reduces high-pressure source gas to target filling pressure. For specialty gases, diaphragm-type reducers are mandatory: diaphragm-sealed chambers eliminate internal contamination, preserving ppb-level purity critical for semiconductor-grade applications.
